FAMILY DAYS AT THE CROW
Join us at the Crow Collection of Asian Art as we celebrate Hinamatsuri, the Japanese Doll Festival, from 10 AM to 2PM Saturday, March 7.
The doll festival, which is being held in collaboration with the Japan-America Society ofDallas/Fort Worth, is the second installment of Family Days at the Crow, a new initiative that was launched last month to provide families with opportunities to explore Asian art and culture.
The on-going series is scheduled for the first Saturday of each month.
Hinamatsuri, also known as Girls’ Day, takes place at the museum, 2010 Flora Street, in the downtown Dallas Arts District. The festival is free and open to the public. No reservations required.
The festival features dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians dressed in traditional court clothing of the Hein period. They are placed on platforms in a specific order according to their rank. Come see the traditional doll display in the Crow Collection’s Family Center.
This Saturday there also will be Japanese arts and crafts 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., including fish printing and origami demonstrations. Throughout the afternoon, visitors will have an opportunity to design their own kimono, learn about different Japanese dolls, and as well as traditional Japanese puppet theater. At noon there will be Japanese storytelling.
And as a special treat, the Dallas Zoo will be visiting the museum at 1 p.m. to showcase a few of their favorite furry friends.
In Japan, Girls’ Day is a time to wish young women a year filled with health and happiness. Come join us as we celebrate girls throughout the world.
