Trammell Crow

Trammell Crow was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. After attending Dallas public schools and completing high school, he worked for Mercantile Bank in Dallas and attended Southern Methodist University evening classes in accounting and law. Mr. Crow became a certified public accountant and joined the firm of Ernst & Ernst. Mr. Crow served in the United States Navy and attained the rank of commander.

Mr. Crow founded the Trammell Crow Company, one of the most successful real estate development companies in the United States. He established and developed the Dallas Market Center, the largest trade and merchandise mart in the world and the prototype from which subsequent marts have been drawn, including others that he has built. He also founded a similar mart, Brussels International Trade Mart, in Brussels, Belgium, and was a partner in developing the Trade Mart in Atlanta. Mr. Crow developed the Anatole Hotel in Dallas and is also the founder of the Wyndham Hotel chain.

Mr. Crow organized and is chairman of The National Tree Trust, a foundation designed to mobilize volunteers, promote public awareness, and bring corporate and civic institutions together in support of local tree planting across America. Trammell Crow has been a participant in many civic and charitable organizations and has served on numerous corporate and education boards. He has been a trustee on the boards of Southwestern University and the University of Pennsylvania. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, both business and civic, including honorary doctorates from the University of North Texas, Southwestern Adventist College, Texas Tech University, Pepperdine University and Oklahoma Christian College.

In 1987, Mr. Crow was inducted into the National Business Hall of Fame, having previously been inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame in 1985. Appointed by President George Bush, Mr. Crow served on the National Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. Mr. Crow's present activities primarily involve the agricultural interests of the Crow family, including timberland and operation and management of five nurseries, which grow trees for use in ornamental planting.

Margaret Doggett Crow

Margaret Doggett Crow was born in Dallas and is a fifth generation Dallasite. She is a graduate of The Hockaday School in Dallas and later received a bachelor of arts degree from The University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

Owner of MDC Gift Shops, Inc., Mrs. Crow operates numerous hotel gift and sundry stores and also serves as a buyer for these stores while traveling throughout the world.

Her extensive community involvement includes duties as the former vice chairman and current member of the executive committee of The University of Texas System Chancellor's Council. She also has served as a member of The University of Texas at Austin advisory councils for both the College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Fine Arts. She was named a life trustee of The Hockaday School board of trustees and is a current member of The Junior League of Dallas, The Dallas Woman's Club, The Dallas Garden Club, and the Founders Garden Club of the Garden Club of America.

In addition, Mrs. Crow is a former member of the Texas Commission on the Arts and Humanities and a former board member of the Visiting Nurses Association and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Crow is a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her parents were Edwin B. and Lillian Smith Doggett.

Mrs. Margaret Crow

Amy L. Hofland

As director of The Trammell & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art, Amy Hofland manages the daily operations of the museum and its staff, and maintains the Crow family vision by continuously building its exciting calendar of visiting exhibitions, events, and educational programming. Formerly the director of education, Mrs. Hofland has been with the museum since its opening in 1998 and was promoted to director in 2002. She holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a master of arts degree in art education from the University of North Texas, where she was part of the distinguished Marcus Fellow program.

  During her tenure with the museum she has been invited to speak on the topic of art education in numerous venues including the National Art Education Association (NAEA) conference, the Texas Art Education Association conference, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, the Meadows Museum, and the Amon Carter Museum. She has co-authored an exhibition catalogue, two art education publications, and produced "Passport to Asia for Kids," an outreach video made in collaboration with the Dallas Independent School District. In July 2001 she was chosen as a delegate for the U.S./China Education through the Arts conference and earlier that year served as adjunct professor at the University of North Texas. Prior to joining the Crow Collection of Asian Art, Mrs. Hofland taught art education at Armstrong Elementary School in Dallas, Texas where she was nominated for Teacher of the Year.  

An active proponent of the Dallas Arts District, and one firmly committed to its growth and success, Mrs. Hofland maintains extensive community involvement through her service on the advisory board of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She is also a member of the Downtown Dallas Mayor's Task Force, the Arts District Strategic Planning Committee, and the Junior League of Dallas. In 2008 she was also selected as a juror for the 2008 Hunting Prize.
